How to take a great sharp picture of a tropical fish without getting wet! Simple photography technique.

Sharp pictures of tropical fish do not have to be difficult to get. With this one photography trick, you could keep dry and still get great images of freely swimming fish.
It is easy to take a picture of a fish on a hook, after it was caught. But what if you want to create an image that looks natural and almost untouched, with water plants and happy fish swimming freely? We all have seen pictures of unrecognizable sea creatures that tourists photographed with cheap water cameras. Sometimes, one of them lucks out and they actually do get a good picture. However, this happens rarely and at great effort.
Getting a good in focus picture takes skill, good camera with waterproof case and lots of time. But, there is another way to get great photographs of fish. Using this method, you can get great photographs of fish without an underwater housing for your camera, scuba equipment or a wetsuit.
How to take a sharp picture of a fish
- Take a picture of a fish in an aquarium. While it might not be as exciting as finding a truly wild fish underwater and chasing it to snap a shot, it is much cheaper! Plus, once you have a picture, what you say about it is entirely up to you.
- Even in an aquarium, fish moves fast. With darker lights and murkiness of water, the time when fish appears in focus is still very limited.
- To get the best pictures, lower a sheet of clear glass into the aquarium. Make sure the glass is clean, so it would not contaminate the fish tank.
- Carefully move it toward the front of the aquarium, separating the fish you would like to photograph.
- This will restrict the area in which the fish can swim, so it is easier to keep it within the field of focus.
- Since the glass is clear, plants and other animals will be still visible and would make a great background.
- To minimize shaking, use a tripod.
- Remember that a camera flash will reflect off the glass, so don’t use simple on-camera flash for this project. Use diffused (spread out) light.
- Take a great sharp picture. Actually, take several. This way one of them will surely come out perfect.
- Enjoy all the compliments!

Interesting suggestions but I doubt the public aquarium would allow me to start lowering sheets of glass. Obviously, some of this is for private aquariums, but some will work in both private and public spaces. Voting this Up and Useful.
